Bit of a rushed shot today, I really wasn’t sure how my time was going to go. I took this as I was leaving work. There is a tree that’s half bare, and half with red leaves still on it. The background is pretty ugly no matter how I tried to frame it. In the end I crop it down to just this.
The original looked ok I thought but lacked a bit of "oomph". On the drive home from badminton I was thinking of how I could spruce the image up and decided to give adding some textures a go. I had a photo from the holiday that has insane wood grains so I grabbed it and had a quick play around.
This is the first real try at adding textures to a photo, certainly nowhere near the masters like Adriana Glackin or Betty Wisse. Also I just realised it has been a long time since I posted a black and white photo in my project 365, so here it is!
Anyways as usual after badminton it’s about 1am and tomorrow I have 5 hours of driving to do on top of a full day’s work. Will catch up with everyone’s photos this weekend.
To The Paradise Lost

Last year on same date of 8th Oct, your world shook upside down. You could see nothing but a bleak hole through which the life only seemed pointless and eartbreaking place. You lost many many lives of your loved ones. You had to see your sons, daughters, wives, fathers and mothers go slip out of your hands. You heard your cries day and night in the rubble until they ceased to physically exist and yet every night since then they come haunting you, ripping your life once more apart. I couldn’t say I fully understand your world.
Yet, many people like me who were hundreds of miles away and even thousands flocked to your world to see if they could give you a shoulder to cry on, some food so your limbs and stomach doesn’t go numb too like your soul. People from Karachi and
Britain were in Islamabad within a day and more and more people visited you to help you and others stand on your feet.
English women and girls who wore "shalwar-Kameez" and fasted like your muslims with you, many people from USA, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia and other parts of world were restless and wanted to help you. Many of them came and attended your
wounds. Canadian Pakistani doctors were here in few days and they attended 1200 patients a day and yet it may not have been sufficient. And yes, that’s the human part of this divine mystery.
Hundreds of thousands of people cried for you. No, they didn’t understand your language, or your culture or your land or even your religion. They cried because they were only humans and they did everything they could to make you smile and happy too. They didn’t want to tell you that they know your griefs or that it’d ever be the same. But they all have only one message: there’s no grief and sadness in life that’s bigger than the strength and character of a man.
Dr. Fatima might not weigh more than a healthy teen ager but she reached the farthest place in Pakistani border on her feet after travelling 10hours of long and dreadful journey. Capt. Wajeeh Murtaza who’s got only few weeks of Aviation training had
to fly an American helicopter to reach to your homes several times a day. Qari Saifullah had 5 children and an ailing wife with paralyzed mother but he spent entire month in those mountains looking for anyone who might need a doctor or food or a hand to lift you. Usman worked with British team 18hours relentlessly under the darkness of Margalla Towers searching for his best friend in his damaged office. He could never save him but he found his family and he got his friend’s father out. And while he couldn’t save his friend or even see his damaged body for it was too heart-breaking for him, he has remained at your place, in your world for one whole year managing a base camp many people like him helped building. Sanaullah is only 16 and because his school is also damaged, he couldn’t complete his Matriculation exam and go to Abbottabad for higher studies, but for one whole year, he’s grown with your orphaned kids, with your widowed women and he’s fed your new born baby. Stacey Wilbert remained filled in dusty air and stinking and burning smell for days and days and yet she travelled across the region to get news and stories so she could inform other people what brave world you’re holding together and will not let this fall you further apart.
And yet I say to you that it might not have been enough.
People who always drank mineral water in western world worked day and night and yet they may have erred in their work. Army soldiers worked each and every day removing the landslides and making bridges so other people could reach you and yet they
might have been weak sometimes and not done enough. Ordinary volunteers who left their families, girls with scarves and soon-to-be-married flew from as far of places as Karachi and travelled hours and hours on those mountains to reach to you and tell you one and only message: We’re doing whatever we could do and yet it could not be enough so forgive us and the life that’s been shattered infront of your eyes, we’d all build it together.
Every broken object once mended is never same. There’re always some patches, some missing points, some trails reminding of broken pieces. yes, this is how the life’s always been – never perfect. It’s never been perfect because that’s how the real mettle of human dignity raises itself above all things physical and spiritual. The ingenuity of wisdom and strength of character is only tested in such circumstances. And while all of my fellow beings might have faulted at some points, neglected some areas and our help and aid might not have been enough for your wounds and suffering so forgive us. And you can forgive us for you have gone through much worse and heart-breaking than what we went through working for your tears and well being. For you have stood fast the most treacherous mountains and the killing winter and one whole year. And you can forgive us for I can see you’re doing everything you can to not let your world be fall apart completely for the sake of your remaining child. And like those mountains have started becoming green, the rivers and lakes have started giving pure water, I ask you to be happy and smile for those who’re left. They may not be your father, son, daughter or wife but they’re also in as much pain as you are. The circle of life has yet to be completed. The life’s endless journeys have yet to be fulfilled and test your strength many more time. I could see if you could survive this one long year without your loved ones, you could have many more fights left in you. And many more fights shall come ahead. And I only want to assure you that you won’t be alone in them. Men of all colors, races, languages and religions would be there. May the divine force of peace, love and faith be with you and us all. Amen.
