Manland Junior – Primary School
Pre 1966 as the New wooden two classroom hut has not yet been built.
The juniors are forming the queue for dinner, wise NCH children hide until the last few are going in, this gives a better chance of bigger portions, in 1966 the meal system was changed to one long queue and you were served in turn, one can leave when finished, this was due to the increase in numbers from the refugee classes that had been at the old school for their first year in 1964/65.
In the 3rd year, it was 730 feet from our classroom to the boys lav.
Mr Walton has his commanding office that at least could see part of the playground. Where I spent many happy playtimes, dinner times and other times waiting to see him so that he could practice the use of the slipper or the cane.
Mr Kingham’s Football field is in good order.
A few years later, the senior school stole some of the sports field, they were welcome to it, I hated football. On the days I ‘forgot’ my games kit, I was rewarded with the slipper or had to do a few hundred lines as punishment (either punishment was better than playing football), I never forgot my PE or swimming kit, I wonder they couldn’t work out that I hated team sports that involved a ball. (I had double vision – I couldn’t see the ball)
Does anyone have memories of the famous three?
Mr Walton
Mr Fuller
Mr Kingham
