Provided you have the tools and the servo you can built this for under a couple of bucks. The actuator extends with a rate of about 50mm/min. It is rather slow but very powerful. The modified servo is a HITEC HS-300, but the hack should work equally on any servo. The video shows preliminary testing of the linear actuator and general instructions on how to replicate it. Detailed assembly instructions and additional hacks can be found at: www.01mech.com Comments welcome!

In this video, we will join all four pieces together, add the interior pieces, and add the actual walls of our chest. So the first thing we are going to do is attach all four pieces. Often in woodworking, people spend lots of time on their measuring and cutting and then rush through the assembly phase. Take your time, this is just as important as any of the other steps. Making sure that everything is aligned and attached correctly is what will make your project really work.
